ODESSA
RAILWAY STATION
The railway
station is located in the central part of the city, near to the
well-known market Privoz. To the railway station well-known Odessa
streets Rishel'evskaya, Pushkinskaya, Ekaterininskaya come. In parallel
to the station passes well-known not only in Odessa but all over
the world - Bol'shaya and Malaya Arnautskaya streets.
The building
of the railway station "Odessa-Main" was building from 1879 to 1883.
In station building ticket offices, post office, waiting rooms were.
The lobby floor was inlaid with multi-colored tiles, and all pilasters,
eaves and draughts are painted in several tones. The hall of the
1 and 2 classes had a parquet floor, the beautiful ceiling, was
shined with electricity. There was a buffet, a room for ladies.
The 3 class hall had solidity and simplicity of furnish. All halls
had convenient exits on platform. The station platform was covered
by light and graceful iron roof in the form of domes from wavy iron.
The station
has been destroyed during war in 1944. And it was restored, or rather
built in 1952 under A.M.Chuprin project instead of the destroyed.
The present building, of 1952, repeats as a whole old station.
In 2001 the
reconstruction of the station began. Building reconstruction passed
in several stages. Result of the done works are the repaired first
and second ticket offices, and also a round hall works over which
have been spent to the closing stage. The reconstruction has kept
the internal composition of the building as if it is an architectural
memorial. In the station building to services of passengers of 32
ticket offices, comfortable waiting rooms, the service centre are.
At the station passengers can use also additional services. If necessary
there is a possibility to address in room bureau, to use services
of x-copying, a taxi call. In the first ticket office hall TVs are
established for comfortable stay of passengers during acquisition
of tickets. Reconstruction has been finished on June, 27th, 2007,
in 55-year-old anniversary of the station.
Passenger trains
on a regular basis move between Odessa and Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava,
Vienna, Berlin, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, the basic cities of Ukraine
and many other cities of the former USSR.
